No More Excuses!

Ok people. It has begun...

I feel you must be warned, I just watched the first episode of Season 10 of The Biggest Loser. There were tissues handy. Yes, even Matt teared up....oh wait, that was during Australia*hehe*....anyway, I am officially motivated!

I have never had a problem setting goals for myself. In fact, I set goals daily. It helps me stay focused and I can accomplish so much more in a day if I have my goals. While Kyle has been gone with the Army, I have made it a point to set goals that would take months to reach....because, well, I had months. Now here we are 4 weeks away from him coming home to me! I've done a little inventory on the things I set out to accomplish and the things that I actually DID accomplish and I have to say, I'm proud of myself!

I'm also terribly disappointed in myself.

On a list of about 25 things I had wanted to accomplish before Kyle came home, I have completed less than half. But the great thing about my goals is they are just that: Goals! Nothing says I can't keep trying! Nothing says I can't accomplish great things when my husband is here! I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to!

*Please be advised: I CANNOT BE STOPPED!!!*

I am surprised at the effect that a single T.V. episode--which I used to refer to as a "stupid tearjerking waste of time"--has had on my life. Silly as it may seem, this is exactly what I needed. I needed to see that there are people out there who have faced and are still facing trials greater than I have ever experienced, and these people are not making excuses! Each person has their own motivation: family, life, death, success, failure. For a few people, their first taste of success was also a taste of failure when they failed their first challenge and never actually made it onto the show. I'm actually more excited to see how these people end up!

So I've decided that I won't look at myself and get angry and depressed over the things I didn't accomplish, but instead, I'm going to push myself even harder and pursue my goals with every ounce of myself!

One goal that wasn't included on my 6-month plan, but has been lingering in my head for the past 6 years (Are you kidding me?! 6 YEARS?! Ya, it's definitely time for this one!) is to Run the St. George Marathon.

I have an entire year before the St. George Marathon. My cousins Madison and Camille and my Aunt Kristine and Uncle Allen were the ones who first introduced me to the idea of a marathon. They ran together in the fall of 2004. Watching them do 26.2 miles was amazing! And they came back and ran it year after year after year! I fell in love with the idea of running a marathon (and the idea of finally having fabulous legs! lol) and the idea of pushing my body to do something beyond my perceived capability six years ago...

Well, no more excuses! Thanks to my cousins, aunt and uncle, and three fabulous sisters-in-law who have all discovered the love of running and encouraged me to join, I will be running The St. George Marathon in 2011!!! This is my commitment! No excuses!

I'm so excited, I bought new running pants today! :) Two pairs! Wish me luck!!!

If you haven't run for awhile there is a great program that I found for my hubby online because he eventually wants to run the marathon too. It is designed for people who have really never ran before but it's called "Couch to..." they have 5K, 10K, and 1/2 Marathon. All you have to do is search and it gives you the layout of the program to follow. My hubby is really excited about it! AND I've heard it works you just need to stick to it!!! Keep me posted!
