This last Sunday, Kyle and I went with his family to the Conference Center in Salt Lake City to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas Concert. The drive there was uh.......a little scary (Kyle's dad drives like my dad, when people are bein stupid in the snow--throw on the 4-Low and TEAR THRU IT!!!! haha ) Right after we pulled in and parked, a car pulled in and slid right into a fence post which crushed through the front end of what looked like a very new car :( I felt bad for that guy! We had to walk about half a block in the blizzard to get inside. We were all covered in snow by the time we got inside. And what I've learned from that walk is very simple--Nylons are of the devil!!! And I have sworn to never purchase another pair.
The concert was absolutely beautiful!!! The stage was decorated like a small village in a snowy mountain. There were beautiful, huge poinsettas all over as well as "snow". There were small lights hanging from the ceiling which looked like stars all over and large bells that they chimed with. Along with the Choir was tons of bell ringers, ballerinas, and the Orchestra. There was constantly so much going on, it was really entertaining. They also had two guests, Brian Stokes Mitchell who is a famous Opera singer (known for The Impossible Dream) and famous actor Edward Hermann who plays in a lot of movies as well as the grandpa for Gillmore Girls tv show. Brian Stokes Mitchell sang along with the choir and orchestra and Edward Hermann narrated a story on the tradition of christmas bells.
After the concert, President Monson and President Uchdorf presented the two special guests with some plaques and welcomed them as friends to the church. Afterward, the choir sang God Be With You Til We Meet Again with no music accompaniment. They were both so touched, especially Edward Hermann--he was crying through the entire song.
I highly recommend trying to get tickets to EVERYONE!!!! This was the best concert I've ever been to. Since it was in the conference center, we didn't take any pictures but you can check out the church's website to see pics of the stage and things.
